Happy Birthday, Kendall!

I can't believe it's been a year since you were born! You are such a joy and a beautiful addition to our family. We are so thankful that Jesus gave you to us! Happy Birthday, Sweetheart! We love you very much!
Poison Control

Yesterday I had an e-mail I had to write so I left the kids for, at most, 1 minute while I went in the computer room. When I came out, I immediately smelled fingernail polish. Uh-oh... needless to say, the smell of fingernail polish and unattended toddlers are not a good combination. I walked around the corner to discover both of my children sitting under the kitchen table and Carter is "painting" the floor. (Thankfully it was clear fingernail polish.) Next, I noticed that Kendall's eyes were watering. I picked her up and smelled her lips only to discover that her mouth did indeed smell like fingernail polish. My 2 1/2 year old was feeding my 1 year old fingernail polish! I quickly called poison control and reached a very helpful pharmacist named Gilbert. Gilbert, much to my surprise, instructed me to TASTE the fingernail polish! What?!?! Yeah, I heard him right... I had to taste the polish. Let me tell you, it was awful! He asked what it tasted like, and I told him it was very bitter. To which he responded, "Great!" It turns out that the companies that make fingernail polish include a chemical in the polish that makes it very bitter in order to discourage kids from eating it. Gilbert said that with that awful taste there was no way that my kids could have eaten enough to harm themselves. He gave me a few signs to watch for, just in case, and then told me he would call back later to check on Kendall. Thankfully, Kendall does not appear to have any adverse side effects from her little "snack."

I never dreamed I would say... part 2

Today I had to say, "Carter, we don't wipe our noses on the carpet." Oh dear! It's really hard to stifle the giggles when you have to say something like that!

I never dreamed I would say...

"Son, we don't put our toothbrush in our toes." Yes, I actually had to say that yesterday. I never ever would have dreamed that I would say that until I became a mother. :-)

Baby Food

The other day I was feeding Kendall some baby food and Carter expressed some interest in trying a bite. She was eating plums and apples so I gave him a bite and he loved it! The next day I was feeding her peaches and he wanted another bite. Again, he loved it! On the third day I was feeding her peas and carrots and, again, he wanted to try a bite. So, I gave him a bite. :-) He immediately starts pointing at his mouth and panicking, obviously wanting to spit the bite out. I handed him a paper towel and told him he could spit it out, at which point he starts gagging and coughing. I'm trying not to laugh as I help him wipe off his tongue and mouth. Once we finished cleaning up, he gave me a very serious look and said, "Mommy, no like KK's (this is what he calls Kendall) food." It was pretty funny!

Fun Trip
So, we spent the last weekend in Las Cruces helping Kyle celebrate his graduation from NMSU. We had an absolute ball! My entire family was there, including Curtis who surprised Kyle by flying in from the Air Force Academy! It was so much fun to see everyone again!
We finally got to meet our newest niece/cousin, Ina! She is absolutely beautiful and such a sweet baby. Kyle and Chrissy are wonderful parents, although it is a little surreal to see your little brother as a daddy!
The graduation ceremony went well and was followed by a wonderful enchilada lunch reception at Kyle and Chrissy's church. Kyle graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and will begin a job in Albuquerque in a few weeks.
One downside to the trip is that we were having such a great time that we stayed up late every night we were there. And, for some reason, kids never get the memo that mom and dad stayed up late therefore they should sleep later in the morning! :-) We came home exhausted but it was well worth it!
Thanks for hosting such a fun family get together Kyle, Chrissy, and Marit! We love you guys!

Happy Birthday Justin!

Today is Justin's 28th birthday! I am so thankful to be celebrating another birthday with my wonderful husband! Unfortunately, he still had to go to work today (dern responsibilities!) but we plan to celebrate this weekend with friends and family. Happy Birthday Babe! I love you!

So, I really am going to try to get back in the hang of this blogging thing... Here's a little update:

Carter is a busy 2 year old. He makes me laugh and keeps me on my knees! His language skills have really exploded lately but most people still have a hard time understanding him. Here are a few funny things he's done lately:
  • Every time I change the kids diapers he asks me, "Mommy, poo poo?" He always has to know if the diaper is poopy or just wet.
  • He loves to "play" Rock Band with his aunt NayNay (Dana).
  • He LOVES to go to the park.
  • He LOVES lala muh (chocolate milk).
Kendall is just the sweetest little girl I have ever seen. She is now 9 months old and has mastered crawling. She keeps me on my toes! Here are a few funny things about her:
  • She puts EVERYTHING in her mouth.
  • She takes her clip out of her hair every time we get in the car.
  • She LOVES to dance.
  • She absolutely adores her older brother.
My mom is here for a visit right now. It has been absolutely wonderful to have Grammy here! More later...
